Sustainable Coffee Academy

Why should I attend the Sustainable Coffee Academy?

Scoll Down To See Schedule

The person purchasing the cup of coffee, or the pound of coffee must understand what is required to make coffee environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable for all involved in the coffee industry. Only when they understand what is involved, will they continue to support sustainable initiatives by continuing to purchase sustainable coffee.

Helping our customers and others in the Sustainable Coffee Industry clearly articulate this at the point of service is the driving force behind why I created The Sustainable Coffee Academy.

The cost of specialty and sustainable coffee has risen dramatically, more than doubling in the past 18 months, and the trend shows no sign of retreating.

  • Initiatives like Direct Trade and Fairly Traded have raised wages and conditions on the farm.

  • Initiatives like Natural and Organic Farming have increased the quality of the coffee.

  • Coffee producing countries are developing their own Specialty Coffee markets and consuming coffee that would have previously been exported.

  • Traditionally non-coffee consuming nations like China and India are rapidly becoming coffee consumers as their economies continue to grow.

  • Nationally and Internationally branded commercial coffee, convenience chains, and fast food chains are upgrading their coffee programs with better quality coffee.

The quality of specialty and sustainable coffee has clearly risen over the past 16 years that I have been in this industry. The quality of life on the farm has risen over the same time period. Now, more than ever, we must continue to support this progress with our purchases or see all of the advances we have made as an industry be eroded away.

The Sustainable Coffee Acedemy is designed to help our customers to be able to clearly articulate why specific coffees are sustainable and how they differ from other good tasting but not necessarily sustainable coffees.
